Studying offshore is one experience not taken by too many students around the world. Foreign students should fly to the country of destination and spend some considerable amount of time there, until their academic programs are complete. Being in another country is hard because there are always cultural differences. Here are some tips that will help foreign students survive living and studying abroad:
- Have your visa, passport and other pertinent travel and education documents photocopied; keep the photocopies in a secure area. You should do so to protect yourself and spare yourself potential troubles if you happen to lose the original documents.
- Do not bring huge sums of cash when going out of your house or flat. Be observant and keep away from suspicious-looking strangers. Robbers usually victimize foreigners because they think foreigners are easy and not always suspecting. Also, foreigners almost always carry with them cash and prized possessions.
- Carefully select your new sets of friends. Do not befriend just anyone you meet. Develop a circle of friends at a slow pace. Do not easily and quickly get intimate with just anyone.
- Be smart and extra attentive. If you sense something is wrong in a place or if you sense trouble arising, immediately leave the place and go home instead. The best way to avoid trouble is to avoid frequenting or getting into such occasions.
On top of all these, the best tip for foreign students would be to be well groomed, to live peacefully and with great discipline. No questions asked.

Iâ€™ve found a cool apartment! Okay, okayâ€¦so itâ€™s not perfect. Just a few bugs. I mean literally! First expense? An exterminator! Is it worth the cash? Well, I canâ€™t afford a more expensive place, so a one-time (please!) cash outlay should be okay. Maybe just a can of â€œRaid?â€

I need a way to move my stuff. Daddy, can I borrow your truck? You donâ€™t have one? Why not? Do you want one? Iâ€™ll help you pick it out! Well, it was just a suggestion. No need to get all bent out of shape! I guess Iâ€™d better call the truck rental places. What do you meanâ€¦$200â€¦PLUS mileage? AND Gas? Good grief!

While Iâ€™m on the phone Iâ€™ll call the utility and phone companies. Yes, I know I havenâ€™t used your services before. No, I donâ€™t have a credit card; this is my first place. You want what? A $100 deposit? For EACH? Holy cowâ€¦do you people have a license to steal?

Daddy, I need $500 for moving expenses! I used all my money for the first and last months rent AND the damage deposit. Well, how was I to know this was going to be so expensive? Sell something? Daaaaadâ€¦I NEED my TV!

Boy, this place is pretty empty. Maybe I should buy a couch and a chair. Nahâ€¦I have my bed. Thatâ€™ll be good enough. I donâ€™t need a table; Iâ€™ll just use this box.

Renters Insurance? I donâ€™t think so! What do I have to insure?

Just got my first phone call! Iâ€™d love to come to your party! Daddy, I need a car. Because itâ€™s too far to walk to work, thatâ€™s why. Umm, Daddyâ€¦thereâ€™s car insurance too! Thanks, Dadâ€¦youâ€™re the best! And gas? I didnâ€™t think soâ€¦

Time for dinner. Letâ€™s look in these boxes. Oh, No! No dishes or pans. No FOOD!
